A dream(ing) come true

Good evening. Well, it’s the evening when you will be reading this. Maybe you will save it for later. I know when I see that the YouTube channels that I follow upload a new video, I set aside some time later to sit down and watch it because I want to give my full undivided attention to it. But you do you. I’m not your dad. Probably.

It’s Friday, dear readers. You know what that means. I get to talk about writing. I have nothing new to share, writing-wise. I do have something writing adjacent though, that I am excited to share. Last night I attended an intimate open mic in Redbooks in Gorey and did something I never did before. I recited a poem from memory. As someone who aspires to be a performer to the standard of Stephen James Smith and John Cooper Clarke, I knew that all it takes is some work to finally commit my poems to memory. Stephen himself was generous enough to share some tips with me. I tried them and oh my Satan do they work!

The poem is called “Dreaming”, and I wrote it as part of the five-word challenge at So Say So in Wexford Arts Centre. It’s about just that, really. I am a big dreamer at heart. It is both a blessing and a curse.

With that, here is a link to my poetry Instagram, where I uploaded myself reciting. It went well and was well received despite the silence. Trust me. I have a lot of exciting ideas in the pipeline and hopefully, you will see them sooner rather than later.

That’s all I have for you today. The next blog will be on Monday as usual. Sunday is October. That is absolutely terrifying. Enjoy the weekend. Look after yourself and others. Thank you for reading and thank you very much for your patience and time.
