Awkward Open Mics

I went to an open mic on Friday. I recited the piece of micro-fiction. By the way, you can read it right here. There was a lot of great talent on display, and I was there. Many young people were performing as well, which you love to see. I didn’t do this sort of thing when I was younger. Start them young, as they say. I realised this too late, unfortunately. I won’t get bogged down in the “oh woe is me”, but this is Monday Moaning.

After another great night at Castle Delights in Kilmuckridge, here is a funny story. There are a lot of holidaymakers around here during this time of year. Many of them holiday in and around Kilmuckridge and so many of them have shown up to these events. It’s cool to recite in front of strangers not from the area. You never know if my poems resonate with them; they may take that feeling back home. Maybe I am overthinking that a bit, but you never know.

There was poetry, funny stories, singing and music at the open mic. A young man performed a song I hadn’t heard before. When introducing the song, he mumbled, so I didn’t know the name. But I liked the song. It had quite the attention-grabbing lyrics. With all his might, this young man belted: Yes, I’m lonely. Wanna die.

Do you know that song? It’s an actual song. It’s called Yer Blues and was initially performed by none other than The Beatles. I found that out only yesterday. When I initially found it, it was performed by the supergroup The Dirty Mac. That group consisted of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Mitch Mitchell. I had no idea that group ever existed. My mind was blown. That lad was a good singer too. Fair play to him is all I will say. It was a family-friendly event. There were children there. Everyone sat a bit awkwardly as he played. Again, good song and a good singer. I could never do what he did. I’ll stick to mediocre poetry.

This is a first, dear reader. I was severely sidetracked this morning and have written this blog in two sittings. I went with Mam to do the weekly shopping. Well, I wasn’t going to go for a walk in the rain, was I? It’s raining today, by the way. What else is new for an Irish summer? That’s all I have to say about that.

I hope you enjoyed that little story. I have my NCT on Saturday. I am sure you will hear all about that on Monday. Until then, I look forward to seeing you on Friday for some fiction of some description. Have a lovely evening. I hope the weather is nice where you are. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your time.
