Bo Burnham and I

Happy Friday. I hope you are having a lovely evening. I have realised I shouldn’t wish you a good day because these blogs always go out at 5 pm. Maybe in the future, I will start releasing them early. I don’t know. This is all coming to me as I am writing. Today’s writing comes from a prompt similar to my piece about hanging out with The Joker. This time it is about me hanging out with Bo Burnham. If you don’t know who that is, I am surprised. Go look him up. That is an order.

Bo Burnham and I were hanging out one day for some reason. The Grammy and Emmy-winning comedian, writer, poet, and director decided, instead of hanging out in the Hollywood Hills, that he would hang out with some loser from Ireland.

“How do you do it, Bo?” I asked desperately.

“Do what?” he asked reservedly.

“Just all of it?” I replied. He agreed to tell me over breakfast. So, we went to an American diner that serves 24/7 breakfast in Ireland. I’m making this up so it doesn’t have to make sense.

“So, Bo, what’s the secret?”

“Well, dude”, Bo began, “I am a very sad man.”

“And that is how you are so funny?” I asked excitedly.

“Exactly. Comedy. The best kind of comedy comes from tragedy or something like that. I don’t have the answers. I just do what I do.”

“Awesome,” I replied, “do you want some dessert?”

“Ice cream sundae, please. It’s the calcium that makes me so tall.”

“What a weird thing to say,” I said, “I guess I am the one writing this.”

Tonight I have had to decline to go for dinner at a nice restaurant in favour of going to an open mic. It is the first of its kind in my town since I moved here, so I must take this opportunity. Wish me luck. I hope you have a nice weekend. It’s WrestleMania this weekend. I am thoroughly excited. Not so much looking forward to the late night, but we shall see how it goes.

Have a wonderful weekend. Look after yourself and others. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your time.
