Drunk on a Thursday

I went out for dinner last night with the family. We had a lovely time. I had a drink with my meal. I think I have reached my quota on drinking for a while. Hello, and welcome to the blog. Let’s talk about my adventures in Dublin once again.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a blog about meeting up with some friends, having a few drinks, going to a gig, and then going home. Well, it happened again. Let me take you through the day.

Kurt decided to get a hotel for the night. He used to have a place to stay in Dublin but doesn’t for the summer. He’s earning, so a hotel was the right choice. Fred (who recently received his PhD) was only a bus journey away. Congratulations to him, by the way. He works hard, probably. We don’t talk about our work lives. I’m not entirely sure what his PhD is in either.

We would see one of Fred’s favourite bands, and Kurt’s: Billy Talent. I am a passive listener. What I had heard and seen up until that point was solid. Kurt picked Fred up at his accommodation at his university. I, as per usual these days, came up on the bus. When I arrived, I called the lads, and they said they were caught in major traffic. The hotel Kurt was staying at was right beside the 3 Arena. Having walked from there recently, I knew it wasn’t far from where I was. The weather these days has been great, so I knew I wouldn’t regret it.

I eventually arrived at the hotel and called Fred. They were still not around. I hung out for a bit. It was strange being right beside the 3 Arena and not going there. The lads eventually arrived, and we took the LUAS back into town. We went to the Jervis shopping centre. Like most shopping centres, it had a food court. Since we all had our preferences, we all got something different. I got KFC, Fred got Eddie Rockets, and Kurt got sushi. What an eclectic table we had.

After dinner, we killed time around the city centre and made our way to The Academy, the first time for the other two. I have been there many times. A decent venue. After support from Scottish band Cold Years (who followed me on Twitter afterwards), Billy Talent took to the stage. I believe in showmanship instead of just playing songs to an audience. Billy Talent was the former. We knew they were happy to be there. What can I say? They are Canadian, after all. They are a very polite band. Not only polite but just full of energy. That being said, it was only the second show of the tour. We will count ourselves lucky on that. As I said, I appreciate a band that plays like every show is their last. I was so happy I went. I would see them again. I only knew about three songs going in. Now I need to sit back and go through the rest. It will be time well spent, no doubt.

After the gig, I returned to the LUAS to a waiting father, who offered to pick me up. That was good of him. Satan knows I could’ve done with a pleasant trip home because I had a bit too much once again. I don’t regret it at all. Having known Fred and Kurt for over ten years, we haven’t all attended a concert together. We are going to another one relatively soon. Keep an eye out for that inevitable blog.

Thank you for reading. I am going to have some lunch. I may even sit outside. The weather continues to improve. I think they call that exam weather. See you on Friday. Thank you for your time.
