Inbox 1584

Hello, and welcome to the blog. I didn’t know what I was going to write today. I had to refer to my little bedside notebook. That means that odds are, I thought of this idea right before drifting off one night. The title of today’s blog is the number of unread emails I have in my inbox at the time of writing. That is a lot for me. How did it all start? Let me tell you. This is Monday.

This has been going on since the start of the year. Like many people, I’m sure; I think it’s appropriate to tie up loose ends at the end of the year and start fresh on New Year’s Day. The problem I always run into is dedicating time to sitting down and doing so. Not the mention all the content itself. All the “best of” compilations and all the email campaigns I signed up for. And this, doctor, is where my problem began. I have signed up for a lot of newsletters and campaigns. I let them slip for a while as I decided to get the other aspects of my life in order. We all know what happened to me on New Year’s Eve. I told myself I would just let the emails go for a while.

Emails don’t stop unless you tell them to stop. I don’t want it to sound like I am irresponsible. I have, of course, opened and replied to the important ones. There aren’t many, but that’s beside the point. I also signed up for a few email courses, which have yet to open. I get daily emails from the same people on top of that.

My biggest issue is that I don’t want the emails to go to waste. I want to read or at least sift through them and eliminate the non-important ones. I started doing that the other day. But guess what? The emails kept flooding in. The number of times I have put “clear inbox” on my to-do list is laughable. There is no other way of getting rid of this problem.

Many of you are probably laughing, saying things like, “Bro, try having 3579 in your inbox. Then we’ll talk”. Firstly, I would say, “I don’t know you. You don’t sound like someone I know,” Secondly, I would wholeheartedly agree. People have inboxes in worst states than me. As someone trying (and failing miserably) to be the most productive person I can be but also someone trying to adopt a minimalist lifestyle, an inbox with over 1500 unread emails won’t fly.

That felt good to get off my chest. Thank you for reading and bearing with me while I try to gather my thoughts, while most are filled with shame at the state of my productivity.

Come back on Friday for some much-needed fiction. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your time.
