My shadow’s therapist

Its Friday. You know what that means. It’s Friday fiction time. Are you excited? I know I am. I wrote a doozy of a piece during my writers’ group meeting, and I would like to share it with you now.

The prompt was to write something from the perspective of your shadow. I wrote a scene where my shadow is going to see his therapist.

“Well, Nif, what did he do today? What’s troubling you?”

“Well, Doc, let me tell you:

He always tells me he will wake up at 6 am. He never does, and that pisses me off. He sits on his arse, watches the telly, and then showers. Then we sit and try and write something. If it’s not Monday or Friday, he gets last. Sometimes I wish he would just sit down and do some work.

Then we will go for a walk. It’s usually in some woodland. Then we go home. We usually sit in front of the telly for the evening. He doesn’t have a job. It’s the same shit all over again. I like the kid, but all this sitting around won’t do him much good in the long run. His parents are constantly at him. I’d be at him, too, if I could speak. I hate hearing his excuses.”

“The important thing, Nif,” said the doctor, “is that you never leave his side. Look over him. Look behind him. He knows you’re there. I know you don’t appreciate that he ignores you. But he is glad you’re there,”

“You’re right, Doc. I got to go. The sun is rising, and I have a bedroom wall I need to stand at.”

I hope you liked that one. I enjoyed writing it. It is something I needed to hear today too. In other news, I have no news. I went to So Say So last night in Wexford. I am writing this yesterday as you are reading it. Just play along. I had a lovely time, though. Always do. I have a list of topics to pick and choose from for Monday’s blog. Come back then to see how that goes. I’m going to eat some fruit.

Before I go, I wanted to shout out to the girl I saw on the Luas the other day who was crying and talking to her friend. I hope everything is okay.

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Thank you for your time.
