Oscars 2023 - my summarized thoughts

I just finished watching the 95th Academy Awards, aka The Oscars 2023. There will most likely be spoilers ahead, so proceed with caution. Hello, and welcome to the blog. Let’s have a bit of a moan.

Even though Ireland swept the nominations, they did not sweep the award winners. That’s okay. You can’t win everything, unfortunately. Congratulations to An Irish Goodbye on their win. I haven’t seen it yet, but I will now have to go out of my way to do so. That’s what award shows are for: highlighting worthwhile viewing for us, the laypeople.

Everything Everywhere All at Once won the big one. I will see it tomorrow, and I am very much looking forward to it. Congratulations to Jamie Lee Curtis too. I am curious to see her performance.

So, will I tell you what bugs me about The Academy Awards? It’s the length. I don’t blame them for that. I blame American commercialism and advertising during the shows. I have only watched American television in America once, and I couldn’t get over how long it takes to watch the show you are watching. As a wrestling fan, I can’t ever get over how matches and segments are broken up for advertising during their weekly shows. The Academy Awards recording on my television was about four hours long. I got through it just by watching the presentations for about 2 hours. Madness.

In other news, I have my review of The Whale (starring Brendan Fraser in a now, Oscar-winning performance) in the works. I hope to have that up at some point this week. I also have a meeting with someone in the literary game this week. Things are heating up once again.

That’s all from me. Thanks for letting me moan today. Most of my day has been taken up with watching the bloody show. Come back on Friday for some updates and some other things.

You are looking great today. Have you done something different with your hair? I like it. Thank you for reading. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees at this year’s Academy Awards. Thank you for your time.
