Thumper

I love music. I listen to it all the time. I am always looking for new music to listen to. Earlier this year, I was exposed to a band whom I am listening to a lot these days. They are an Irish band called Thumper. I am impressed by them. It has been a while since Ireland produced a proper grungy punk rock band. There are bands like Fangclub (shout out to them), but there is something different about Thumper.

First of all, they have two drummers. Need I say more? I will. There are guitarists and a singer/guitarist too. These are all crucial to the whole “rock band” setup but not essential. They released their debut album in March 2022, Delusions of Grandeur. Delusions, meaning a false belief. Grandeur, meaning impressiveness. Yes, I had to look up that word.

I don’t feel like doing a full album review is my goal. This blog post looks to be purely a fanboy introduction to a great band. I have many thoughts on the songs on the album, and I would like to talk about them ad nauseum. Hey, that is the title of one the songs. I won’t today. Maybe another time.

So why do I like Thumper so much? What do they do for me? Would I like to hang out with them? They are a great band; they make me enjoy myself, and most definitely. Those are the short answers. They are playing a show in Whelan’s in Dublin in October, and I am going to see them. I am very excited.

Here is a longer answer: they are unique in that they play poppy grunge songs that clock in at five minutes each, at least. That is different. That is cool. If you are looking for a solid recommendation on how they are live, they did a Livestream on YouTube from the Button Factory in Dublin that is free to watch now. That was during that time that we don’t need to talk about.

If you are looking for a solid audio introduction, they have an EP called Out of Body Auto-Message. It is five songs and just under 30 minutes long. If you are looking for just one song as the perfect entry point, may I suggest Down. This song clocks in at seven minutes and is a masterpiece. The single version (You’re Bringing Me) Down also has a radio edit that is much shorter. The full-length version is well worth your attention though.

That is enough for you to chew on. Thank you for reading. This blog post has taken me ages to write due to this crazy world we live in. I hope you enjoyed reading it and check out Thumper. They are going places and I am all here for it. Have a great day and I hope all is good upstairs.

Thank you for your time.
