Unwritten Cinema Rules

Good evening and welcome to the blog. I went to the cinema on Friday and saw Oppenheimer. That’s what I will be talking about today. I want to get that and some other things off my chest.

Before I tell you about the cinema experience, I wanted to clear the air on something. I said I had to write the blog in two sessions on Friday. The reason is that as I was writing, my dad told me my Mam fell while walking down our road. Long story short, she broke her ankle. She’s doing fine. It’s not ideal for anyone at this time, especially her. It’ll only be six weeks or so. It’s not the end of the world. We thought the world's end was in 2020, and we survived that, didn’t we?

Before you start thinking I sound like the world’s worst son, I did offer my assistance in any way I could, including skipping the cinema and accompanying my Mam and Dad to the hospital. They assured me they would be okay. We knew it wasn’t overly serious. So, off I went to the cinema.

I haven’t seen Barbie yet, but I can assure you it was seen by many people last week. There was pink galore in the cinema lobby. I will hopefully see it this week. I am looking forward to it. The showing I went to of Oppenheimer was relatively full. Always nice to see. I can’t say I am the biggest Christopher Nolan fan. Not a dislike, mind you. The Dark Knight is one of the films that inspired my creativity when it came out. I always tell the story that I watched the first half hour of Inception and had to stop because my head started to hurt. Luckily, I could now adequately prepare for what I was potentially about to see. A three-hour Christopher Nolan film with a physicist as a main character. I hoped I would be able to follow along.

I can safely say that after about 20 minutes, I forgot it was a Nolan film and was captivated. I don’t watch Cillian Murphy films nearly as much as I should. He is a mesmerizing actor. I won’t say the three hours flew by. I did have to give in to my bladder and leave briefly. I can say that going to a public place to watch a film has its downsides. People need to break free from their phones. People need to speak in a lower register if they need to talk. I am so glad I don’t see many family films in the cinema anymore because some people still treat the cinema like their sitting room.

Put your phone away when you are in the cinema. Keep quiet and respectful when you are in the cinema. They aren’t even the “unwritten” rules because you are told this at the start of literally every film you see in the cinema.

That’s enough ranting for one day. I may post a full review of the film on Friday or maybe another random day. I don’t know. It’s my blog. I can do what I want. Thank you for reading the blog today. Do go see Oppenheimer. It’s a very good film. Thank you for your time.
