What I am thinking about

It’s been a hectic morning. Let me ask you this: at what point does technology have to become so unbearably unusable that you think it’s a good time to have a professional look at it? I think I have reached that point today. I am writing this blog relatively late in the day. My laptop hates me. Did you know that? Anyway, on to today’s actual blog.

It wouldn’t be Monday without a little bit of moaning. Moaning is something I am trying to get better at not doing. I have good days and bad days (like us all). I won’t be changing the name of the Monday blog (which I colloquially call the Monday Moaning to myself). I know I don’t refer to it as that as much. But it will always be the Monday Moaning to me.

So, what have I been thinking about? On Friday I showed you some stuff I was looking at. Now it’s time to get a bit more personal and talk about what is going on in the ol’ noggin. I won’t tell you everything. That wouldn’t be interesting enough, to be honest.

I am reading The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod at the moment and having a lovely time doing so. I read a chapter last night that discussed meditation. As a meditator already, I didn’t think I had much else to learn or know about it. However, I did have a slightly unsettling thought: maybe I am meditating too much. Allow me to explain.

I have been meditating consistently for the past four years and am now at a point where I can’t see my life without it. It’s just the best. However, when I was being cavalier with my finances, I decided to use three mediation apps instead of one. It was fun at the start because each app brings a different perspective. The first app I started to use was Headspace and I can’t recommend it enough. This is not a paid advertisement. When I added the other two to my daily meditation practice, I ended up meditating a lot. Too much. It came to the point where I was pretty much wasting my morning. I had no time for journaling and all the other components of my morning routine. I am on the verge now of getting rid of the two extra apps and continuing with the original. Go back to basics, so to speak.

So, here’s a little tip (since you asked): keep it simple. By “it” I mean your daily practices. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. I am now looking forward to cutting back and dedicating more time to things I know are just as important. Maybe there is something you can do to that effect. I won’t tell you to do it, though. I am not your dad. That’s all I have for you today. Jack and I are going to an open mic this week which is very exciting. I am sure you’ll hear all about that soon. Until then, thank you for reading and thank you for your time.
