Crawl
I am going to be performing at a poetry event tonight. I was going to be going anyway to support a friend of mine but due to some scheduling conflicts, my friend has had to pull out and kindly gave me his spot. All this to say I don’t have much in the way of writing to share today.
I don’t believe I shared the following poem but thanks to one of my favourite poets Rudy Franscisco, I learnt a new way of challenging myself as a writer. It’s called a Golden Shovel poem. Basically, you take a quote or a lyric or a line from something you like and use each word as the last line in a poem. The following poem was created by taking a line from Scar Tissue by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Having reread it today, I should get back to writing stuff like this. It’s a lot of fun. This one is called Crawl.
“If I leave this home, maybe once when I am free, I'll
Spread my wings and fly away and maybe make
Something of myself and be bloody well proud of it
You must prepare to be terrible in order to
Show the world why you are supposed to be here and the
World will be sick of your happiness to the moon
And back if
That is something not too controversial to say. I
Can’t tell anymore. I Have
Had enough. the world doesn’t yet what I am going to
Do. This is mine for the taking. Even though you still get to see me Crawl”.
Again, apologies if you have heard this one before. I am on a time crunch today and really wanted to get something out. See you on Monday. Thank you for reading and thank you for your time.
