Harry Baker is his name.

Happy Friday to all. I am now officially off work for the next two weeks, and I am very much looking forward to doing next to nothing. However, I have signed up to do more extra work on my time off. I won’t say I regret it right now because it's nice to earn a bit of dough during my time off but check back in with me in a couple of weeks.

I have been reading a lot of poetry this year (as evident by my Instagram page). It was not planned that way, but I have fallen back in love with it over the past while, and I love reading different styles and finding what I like and don’t like so much. It’s the only way to grow as a writer.

One writer whose collection I finished reading recently was Harry Baker. Harry had been on my radar for a while. He is a former world poetry slam champion and studied mathematics at university. That doesn’t sound relevant, but when you read his poems or hear him perform, they are almost scientific in how they are written. It is hard to explain.

In addition to poetry, he also does musical comedy with Chris Read, collectively named Harry and Chris. They have made a few TV appearances and are pretty funny. His solo work is funny, too, I should add. The collection I read, his latest called Wonderful, centres on what brings him a sense of wonder and joy. It is heartfelt, funny, and sometimes a rollercoaster of emotions. I would recommend it.

That’s all I have for you today. Read some poetry. Find stuff you like. Find stuff you don’t like. The only way is trial and error. Thanks for reading, and thank you for your time.
