Huck & The Flat Tyre
As I said in last Monday’s blog, I am trying to better understand what is within and outside my control. This has become especially true given recent events. Welcome to Monday, by the way. Let’s talk about some car trouble.
I haven’t had the best luck with travel during the Christmas period. Luckily, this story takes place after the travel part. Over the weekend, it was Fred’s birthday (happy birthday again, buddy. I'm a big fan). Kurt had organized for us to do an escape room. We have done them before. Several locations have opened and closed in my hometown of Waterford over the years. We have had some successes and some failures as a team. It would have been a shame if we had failed on Fred’s birthday, of all days.
Let me explain if you don’t know what an escape room is. An escape room is a real-world game simulation in which a team of players is locked in a room and has to figure out puzzles and clues to unlock the door and get out. We had an hour to get out, and we did it! Go, us! We played a game where we were locked in an Xtra-Vision (remember Xtra-Vision?) It was a video/DVD rental chain for the kids out there. Simpler times. After dominating the game, we went for something to eat. Our food arrived before our drinks arrived at the place we were eating—slight tangent. After calling it a day, I drove home and stopped at Tesco. As I pulled off in Tesco, I heard the noise no car owner wants to hear. A ping with the words CHECK TYRE PRESSURE prominently displayed on the dashboard. The weather hasn’t been great the past month or so. I thought I was taking care while driving home, but my wheels seemingly politely reminded me that they weren’t invincible.
My Monday so far has been spent getting my tyres fixed and writing this blog. What a way to start the first week and a bit of 2025. I am not complaining. I am not letting myself do that this year. My writer's group is back tonight, so Friday’s blog is sorted. Thank you for reading. I hope your 2025 hasn’t been nearly as dramatic. Thank you for your time.
