Huck the head(phone)less horseman

Christmas is officially a week away. Can you hear those jingle bells? No? Neither can I. Worth a shot, I guess. I am getting excited. As I said last week, I have officially submitted the last of my course assignments and can officially start enjoying Christmas. That got off to a good start. Until it didn’t. Oh? What happened? Well, let me tell you through the medium of blogging. Welcome to Monday, by the way. Let’s have a bit of a moan,

Friday was assignment submission day. Saturday was OTT day. That’s right; the wrestling. They had their annual Christmas show scheduled for the day I could finally start enjoying Christmas. Amazing. I still had some Christmas presents to buy though. I also connected with Nick, and we planned to meet up before the show and have a potter around. I love Dublin this time of year. I decided to leave for Dublin at around midday. The last thing I wanted to do was either rush or get caught in Christmas traffic. Things were going well. I had a flawless journey up to the LUAS stop and then it happened. I get out of my car and notice that my pockets feel a bit lighter. I had forgotten my headphones.

Now, by headphones I mean my RayCon earbuds. I know there is a distinction. I will just refer to them as my headphones (because of the clever title, you see). I was annoyed. I had a half-hour LUAS journey, to and from town. Nick and I weren’t going to be meeting up for a couple of hours. To make matters worse, Nick texted me and said he was running late. I was right in the middle of an episode of Diary of A CEO, one of my favourite podcasts, on the journey up. I had a choice to make: to buy new headphones or not. Money has been tight recently what with all the Christmas shopping and whatnot. I didn’t even have my little notebook I used to carry with me. Ultimately, I decided to just listen to the sounds of Dublin.

Guess what? I survived. I mean, surprise surprise; not bombarding myself with any aural simulation for once actually did me a world of good. I bought the last Christmas gift I needed to get, which was a big win. I wandered into a phone shop to see if I wanted to splurge on another set. I am proud to say I resisted again. I went into a bookshop to see just how much a notebook would be. It’s amazing how you realize just how expensive things are when you’re on a budget. I then went for some lunch by myself (and really by myself) and killed time until Nick finally arrived. The unplanned experiment was over.

If you are a fan of wearing headphones in public constantly, may I suggest taking a break for a while? You will survive. Maybe not two days in a row; but you will survive. Thank you so much for reading. I hope you have a great week. This day next week is Christmas Day. Whether or not to post something is still being decided. I will keep you abreast. Thank you, as ever, for your time.
