Memento Mori

I wrote a blog post recently about candles. I am not sure why. Scratch that. I know why. I was too lazy to sit and think about anything else. Not my best work. I will briefly talk about candles today because they kind of relate to what I am going to talk about.

Today, I lit my utopia candle (from The School of Life [not a sponsor]) and read the description that came with it. The reason they sell these candles is for you to use the lighting of them as a way to meditate on life. As a student of Stoicism, I do that a lot. I have a lot of stoic reminders in my bedroom that reminds me to live life to the full. Tomorrow is never guaranteed. Why was this brought on so strongly today? I’ll tell you.

Last night I saw on Twitter that a woman named Sara Lee died. Sara was a competitor on WWE’s Tough Enough reality series. The show's premise was that wannabe WWE wrestlers would compete for a WWE contract by learning from the ground up about being a wrestler. It was revived in 2015, the season Sara was on and ultimately won. I fancied her, to be honest. She was a favourite among viewers too. She did not pursue a WWE career and instead trained in another wrestling school. She married a wrestler, Westin Blake, and had three children. She was 30 years old. She was only three years older than me, at the time of writing. If that doesn’t terrify anyone, I don’t know what does.

Memento Mori, Ladies and Gentlemen. Remember you will die. Life is never a guarantee. My heart goes out to Sara’s family and friends.

If you would like to donate to her memorial fund, you can use the link below. Thank you for reading. Memento Mori. Thank you for your time.
